Flying Saucer Writing Competition

his Competition is open for ages between 8-11, and 12-18 year olds, but must reside in Hempstead.
There will be two categories with an overall winner and two runners up for each age category 8-11 and 12-18. Our local renowned Author Dr. Val Wilson, will be judging the stories, and the winners will be invited to attend a special writing workshop, with Dr Wilson at the library. The winner who wins first in each category will also receive a £50 Amazon Voucher, and have their story posted on the friends of the Friends of the Flying Saucer website (www.fofs.org.uk) PLUS be asked to read some of their story at the Tree Lighting Ceremony on the 29th November.
As this is in relation to The Flying Saucer let your imagination run wild, think aliens in the pub, ghostly goings-on, or flying saucers landing in the car park!
For the older ones, you may wish to add crime or a thriller. The story must be up to (but no more than) 500 words. You will be judged on writing skills and content.
The story must be neatly written or printed on A4 paper and held together with either plastic ‘spine bars’ or staples, and submitted with the application form, you can download the application form below, or collect one from either Hempstead Library or the Coffee Shop, and you can return your story to them in a sealed envelope (do not fold your paper) or in the case of the children at Hempstead School, left with them ready to be collected. If you attend Hempstead Primary School, please do not use an application form as they are doing it in house.
The closing date will be NO LATER than SATURDAY 15TH NOVEMBER 2025 and the winners and runners up will be announced on the 28TH NOVEMBER 2025 either by email or telephone or in the case of the school, by them.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Dr Val Wilson writes both cosy crime and horror fiction, along with award-winning non-fiction health books. Her horror stories have previously been published in the Urban Fox Press ghost stories anthology.
